Verse 1

assembled = convoked, or mustered.

princes of Israel. Compare 1 Chronicles 27:16-22.

captains = princes (throughout the chapter). See note on 1 Chronicles 27:1.

stewards. Compare 1 Chronicles 27:25-31. Each body consisted of twelve persons. App-10.


Verse 2

stood up upon his feet. Note David's three attitudes: lying on the earth as a penitent (2 Samuel 12:16. Compare Psa 51); sitting before Jehovah as a worshipper (2 Samuel 7:18. 2 Samuel 17:16); and standing on his feet as a servant (28, 2).

the ark. See note on 1 Chronicles 13:3 and Exodus 25:22.

and = even.

the footstool of our God = the Ark. Figure of speech Anthropopatheia. App-6.

Verse 4

chose me. Compare 1 Samuel 16:12.

Verse 8

congregation = assembly as in 1 Chronicles 28:1.

seek. Hebrew. darash. See notes on 1 Chronicles 10:13, 1 Chronicles 10:14; 1 Samuel 28:6, 1 Samuel 28:7.

children = sons.


Verse 9

mind = soul. Hebrew. nephesh. App-13.


Verse 10

Take heed, &c. The 11th Seder begins here, and ends with 2 Chronicles 2:2. See note on p. 366.


Verse 11

the pattern. Same word as of Tabernacle to Moses (Exodus 25:9, Exodus 25:40. See Hebrews 9:5).

thereof: i.e. of the sanctuary.

mercy seat = the propitiatory. See note on Exodus 25:17.


Verse 12

by the Spirit. Hebrew "by the Spirit (ruach. App-9) with (or in) me". The pattern without, and the worship within, all of God. Nothing can be offered in worship but what comes from God (John 4:24). Therefore said to be built by David in intention, and by Solomon in fact.

chambers = attached chambers.


Verse 17

basons = covered bowls.


Verse 18

of = even. Genitive of Apposition. See App-17.


Verse 20

Be strong, and of a good courage. See note on Deuteronomy 31:7.

He will not fail thee. See notes on Deuteronomy 4:31; Deuteronomy 31:6.
